▶ Do I need to sign up before attending class?
No. If you are a member of Peak Sports Fitness, you are already eligible to participate in our Taekwondo classes. Simply check the class schedule and attend the session that works best for you.
▶ I've never taken martial arts before. Can I still participate?
Absolutely. New students begin training with us all the time. Our instructors work with students based on their individual skills, abilities, and fitness levels. Learning martial arts is a journey, and everyone in class once started as a beginner. We encourage you to ask questions and communicate with instructors whenever you need assistance.
▶ I'm not in shape. Should I wait until I'm fitter before starting?
No. You do not need to be in shape before beginning classes. Training itself helps improve fitness, flexibility, coordination, and confidence. We will work with your current abilities and help you progress at a comfortable pace.
▶ What ages can participate?
We welcome students of many ages. For children, readiness depends more on maturity and the ability to follow instructions than a specific age. For adults, there is no upper age limit. We have students from a wide range of age groups and adjust instruction to individual abilities.
▶ Can parents participate with their children?
Yes. Many parents choose to train alongside their children. Participating together can be a fun and rewarding bonding experience while providing exercise and learning opportunities for both parent and child.
▶ Which classes can I attend?
We offer classes at various times throughout the week. Most students will attend our All Belt Levels classes, which are open to students of all ranks. The activities and focus of each class may vary, so attending multiple classes provides a diverse training experience.
▶ Where can I find the class schedule?
Please refer to the following resources for the most current schedule information:
• Weekly Taekwondo Schedule
• Monthly Dojang Calendar
Links to these schedules can be found on our website.
▶ Do I need a uniform to participate?
No. New students may participate in comfortable athletic clothing such as a t-shirt, shorts, or sweatpants. Our goal is for your first experience to be enjoyable and welcoming.
▶ When do I need a uniform?
A uniform is only required for students who wish to participate in the belt testing program. If you decide to continue your training and pursue rank advancement, one of our instructors will be happy to help you obtain the appropriate uniform.
▶ What is belt testing?
Belt testing is an evaluation of a student's knowledge and performance of Taekwondo techniques, forms, and curriculum requirements. It is the process used to advance through the belt ranks.
▶ How often is belt testing held?
Testing is generally held every two months. Specific testing dates may vary, so students should check the website or monthly calendar for current testing schedules.
▶ What organization does the school follow?
Our rank system follows the standards and certification methods established by World Taekwondo (WT), the international governing body for Olympic-style Taekwondo.
▶ What's the simple difference between Kukkiwon and WT?
Kukkiwon handles rank and technical standards; WT handles competition and the Olympics.
A more detailed version is found below.
▶ What is Kukkiwon?
Kukkiwon is the World Taekwondo Headquarters located in Seoul, South Korea. Established in 1972, Kukkiwon serves as the official governing authority for Taekwondo rank certification and instructor credentials worldwide. Kukkiwon is responsible for issuing internationally recognized Dan (black belt) certifications and promoting the standardization and development of Taekwondo around the world. It is the technical authority for Taekwondo and responsible for what Taekwondo is.
▶ What does WT stand for?
WT stands for World Taekwondo. Prior to 2017, the organization was known as the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). The organization simplified its name to World Taekwondo and now uses the abbreviation WT. It is the international governing body for Olympic Taekwondo. Think of it as the sport and competition governing body that is responsible for how Taekwondo is competed in as a sport.
▶ Are black belt ranks officially certified?
Yes. Dan ranks (black belt and above) are certified through Kukkiwon (the World Taekwondo Headquarters). Established by the South Korean government, it is recognized worldwide as the governing authority for Taekwondo certification.
