Welcome to the Kumdo & Iaido page of Kim's TKDojang

kendoequipment 200

Due to COVID-19, our Kumdo & Iaido classes are not being held at this time.

Have you secretly wanted to learn Kumdo (kendo) but were afraid to try it out?  Or maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to properly wield a katana?  You can do both of these on Friday nights at the dojang.

Learn the fast paced sport of Kumdo from Master Kim and the ancient art of Iaido from Master Foster.

Master Kim will teach you how to use the bamboo sword a.k.a. juk-do (shinai) to defend and attack an opponent.  Then take the step and suit up in armor and partake in light contact.  TaeKwonDo Students - This is truly one of the best ways to overcome any nerves that you may have when sparring in TKD, plus... it’s really fun!!

Master Foster instructs students in iaido, the art of the quick draw sword.  Students learn similar offensive/defensive tactics as in kumdo, but practice with wooden swords known as muk-do (bokken).  As the student progresses, they will practice using a dull metal sword to get a better feel for the weapon.  Forms are also taught to students in order to practice the techniques taught in class.

So what are you waiting for?  Challenge yourself and join us for the third class on Fridays.

If you have any questions about these classes or the program, please use the Contact Us link or click Here.
